# _Position Summary & Essential Job Functions_
Under direct supervision, assists in performing maintenance and installation of mechanical equipment, systems, and structures.
Duties:
_Essential Job Functions_
Assists in the planning of job methods/procedures and in listing required materials, parts, and equipment for project completion.
Assists in the performance of skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment and machinery.
Assists in troubleshooting mechanical systems using computer based control systems.
Performs basic welding and utilizes oxy-acetylene welding equipment and gas/plasma rigs for cutting, shaping, and forming of metals.
Performs threaded pipe fitting; Performs gasket cutting operation; Installs and patches fiberglass and PVC pipe.
Disassembles, repairs, reassembles, and installs vacuum pumps and air compressors.
Removes, inspects, cleans, and/or repair bearing/bushings of site equipment; Inspects and replaces hydraulic hoses; Performs lubrication duties of site equipment.
Assists in the inspection and replacement of valves and rotating equipment; including packing.
Operates computerized inventory system to determine inventory availability for assignment completion.
Utilizes service manuals/parts list to properly identify parts, equipment, and lubrication.
Performs duties utilizing plant's safety policies and procedures, such as, property equipment clearance and tagging procedures.
Reads, interprets and follows instructions/directions of site material safety data sheets.
Operates variety of motorized equipment such as truck, bobcat, forklift, tractor, etc.
Maintains records of maintenance and repairs performed.
Performs assigned progressive on-the-job training tasks to continue development of skills.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
# _Education and Experience_
High school diploma or GED is required. Successful completion of in-house Maintenance Mechanic Helper qualifying test. Minimum of three and one-half (3 ) years in industrial mechanical maintenance and/or repair of electric generation equipment/machinery.
_Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required_
Must possess mechanical aptitude; have basic welding and pipefitting skills and be able to perform basic shop arithmetic.
Knowledge of common methods, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety precautions applicable to the mechanical maintenance field.
Ability to understand and interpret schematics, blueprints, instruction manuals and Material Safety Data Sheets.
Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools.
Possess the skills required to use computers for purposes of monitoring and troubleshooting computer based control systems.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Must be willing to work outdoors under all weather conditions and from high places.
Must be willing to work overtime as needed and be available for emergency and weekend call-outs.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Must successfully pass physical, drug screen and background screening.
